Does W Count as One Letter or Two? — Worked Letter Values

State the input rule
In the English A–Z table W has one value, 5. Its spoken name does not make it two U letters. Repeated L letters are counted separately.
This worked example uses written English A–Z letters. Spaces and punctuation have no value, case is normalized, and every letter occurrence counts. The examples are fictional strings for explaining a method, not readings of real people.
Calculate WILL
Letter values: W(5) + I(9) + L(3) + L(3) = 20. Full single-digit reduction is 20 → 2.
The assignment repeats after I=9: J=1, K=2 and so on. Copying the name into individual letters before adding makes omitted or duplicated letters easier to notice.
Compare with WIL
Letter values: W(5) + I(9) + L(3) = 17. Full reduction is 17 → 8.
The unreduced totals differ by 3. This difference follows from the selected letter strings; it does not demonstrate a change in personality or destiny.
Check vowel and consonant subtotals
Using A, E, I, O and U as vowels for WILL, the vowel total is 9 and the remaining-letter total is 11. Their sum is 20. Y is treated as a consonant in this particular check; another stated convention may classify it differently.
Use the unreduced subtotals for this check. Adding reduced results can hide information, especially when a master-number stopping convention is introduced. An all-letter total and a vowel-only total summarize different inputs.
Keep the calculation separate from interpretation
Record the exact spelling, the letter table and the stopping rule. This example uses full reduction; a convention retaining 11, 22 or 33 should be named separately. Never change spelling merely to produce a preferred result without recording that choice.
The arithmetic is a way to document a symbolic practice. It is not evidence that a name is lucky, that someone should change their identity, or that one spelling will improve a career or relationship. Use real preferences, cultural context and practical needs when choosing how to write a name.
